Retail Design in Oman

Retail Space Design

DESIGN K was responsible for the design, space planning, shop fitting drawings and the lighting plan of  this beautiful retail space  “GO GREEN” located in Muscat,  Oman.  It is the first package free supermarket to open in the GCC region.

The client’s brief for the design was to be  modern, bright, contemporary, clean  and organised, using mainly white as colour and natural light wood,  lots of green plants as well as a open ceiling design. The store mainly consists of the following sections: display units combined with  storage, table displays, a beautiful deli area in the centre of the store, a small nook seating area, chiller sections as well as fresh fruit and vegetables table displays and a seperate store room.   Almost all the  internal walls of the store consists of display units .  Contemporary display tables were designed and placed across the  floor area to showcase the merchandise. One specific  requirement of the client was to have sufficient storage space in addition to the storage room.  We designed all  wall units having  closed storage cabinets at the bottom. The display tables also have benches below , which serves as combined  seating and storage space.  Beautiful white oak wood veneer were used  for all cabinets and display tables.

During the design process we had to  integrate the inventory list provided to is  within the various spaces, i.e. placing and designing for products in allocated sections. This was a hand in hand process with the client until the final merchandise plan was approved. We specifically had to design wall units to incorporate gravity and scoop bins, where the customer dispense them into reusable containers.

Some special design features to mention are the  the beautiful ceiling hanging grills for the haning plants ,the oversized wall unit  located opposite the entrance combined with a lovely sliding barn ladder, a wooden ceiling hung frame structure  installed above the deli area. We have also designed the  bespoke  bread display unit and the weigh station cabinets.

The seamless grey flooring finish selected,  compliments the overall design and provides a very clean and elegant look.

The technical details related to the deli and fridge section chiller equipment had to be incoporated  and integrated with the design and  layout.

During the concept stage process a rendered 3D visual was created which allowed the client to properly visualise and  understand  the proposed design. This is something we undertake for all of our projects.  For this project we even produced detailed 3D drawings for all individual furniture in the this project.  Images by Natelee Cocks

The 3D design undertaken in Skethup provided a very realistic image for the client to be able to visualise the final look of the space.

Playroom Design

Playroom Design

The client’s brief for this lovely playroom was to be “calming, soothing, relaxing, to have sufficient storage space as well as seating using soft colours”

Defnitely a  dream project for  DESIGN K. The colours selected was mostly nude colours, light wood finishes, white finishes and combined with accent colours, i.e. blue ottomans and cinnamon coloured scatter cushions.

Mostly all furniture were custom design, i.e. the bunkbed which was constructed in solid wood, the seating benches, round table as well as wall desk. All the designs were created in 3D in SKETCHUP for approval by the client.

The round table in the centre of the room was designed to incorporate storage buckets.

Beautiful long grey seat cushions were added on the benches.

These benches provided ample storage for all toys and play items. A extra large off-white rug was placed in the room, which covered almost all of the room

Modern contemporary accent furniture pieces and accessories were sourced from international brands  to create the final look for the playroom, i.e. the elephant chair, blue and grey elephant chairs.

We also added foam upholstered mattresses below the bunkbed to create a reading nook.

The white linen teepee was accessorised with a beautiful bunting flags which added another playfull element to the room

Unique hand made wooden house blocks painted in lovely soft colours were added as  styling elements.
